Consulting

My varied experiences over thirty+ years as a practitioner, clinical supervisor, mental health program director, psychology entrepreneur (growing a one-person private practice to a firm with twelve employees), university professor and program director, and researcher, have given me a distinctive skill set that has enabled me to consult to individual clinicians, clinical services, and educational programs in these ways:

Regulatory Issues

  • consulting with applicants to the College of Alberta Psychologists about credentials evaluation and supervision
  • supporting educational programs to apply for accreditation or program approval

Evaluation and Reviewing

  • conducting program evaluations of counselling services
  • writing program review self-studies, and reviewing educational programs in preparation for site visits with provincial and national accreditation bodies

Service Improvement

  • consulting with agencies to improve clinical services, including assisting counselling and psychology organizations develop state of the art systems for clinical supervision 
  • implementing research and data collection protocols in counselling agencies
  • contracting with agencies to provide clinical supervision to their employees
  • mentoring psychologists and counsellors to develop vibrant and profitable private practices
  • providing clinical consultation to individual practitioners re: therapy and assessment skills, and ethics and standards. 

Ethics and Standards

  • educating agencies on privacy legislation and professional ethics, and assisted them to implement recommendations
  • advising psychologists and counsellors responding to legal and regulatory complaints
  • providing expert opinion to regulatory bodies and professional associations on professional conduct investigations
  • supervising practitioners required by a regulatory body to undergo remediation

Proposal Development

  • developing proposals for service delivery contracts
  • writing research grant applications in partnership with community agencies

Education

  • developing curriculum for professional education
  • advising on curriculum for counsellor education and clinical training programs
  • training and supporting the transformation of face-to-face teaching materials to on-line delivery
  • assisting organizations to implement on-line learning
  • supporting agencies to transform their service delivery through training, clinical supervision, and protocol implementation
